This page contains guidelines for posting message to forums on the FreePint Web site. These include the FreePint Bar and FreePint Student Bar.
"Who uses the Bar?"
A large percentage of queries are answered by FreePint subscribers, but the editors of FreePint pay close attention to everything posted on the Bar.
Contributors to the FreePint Newsletter are also invited to reply to queries and comments.
The latest postings are collected together on a Tuesday and Friday and distributed by email in the Bar Digest. Although many questions are answered quickly, you may not receive a reply to your question for a day or two.
"What can I do?"
- Post requests for information and relevant Web sites, answers to queries, good tools and software, useful tips and techniques.
- Post as much detail about your query as possible, including the steps you have tried already. Summarise responses and post the summary to the Bar for the benefit of all members.
- Web addresses (URLs) will automatically be activated as long as they start with "http://" and aren't surrounded with other characters (e.g. don't use "<", ">", commas, etc.)
- Add a brief signature at the end of your posting. This should be no more than two lines long following your name.
"What is inappropriate?"
- Requests
for information on "Latin Translations", "Bank Sort Codes", "Model Agencies" or "University Rankings" are no longer acceptable at either Bar or Student Bar. There are plenty of "self help" postings on these topics should visitors require assistance.
- Blatantly commercial messages which are not in response to a direct request for information are unacceptable.
- We reserve the right to remove or edit inappropriate, inaccurate, off-topic or abusive postings, although we rarely have to do this.
- Job postings are not allowed and should be placed through Jinfo.
- Requests for help with specific legal problems and proceedings are inappropriate and you should seek professional advice.
- HTML, Javascript or other code should not be posted up at the Bar. This includes examples of code in answer to an enquiry. Code should be sent by email direct to the original enquirer.
Please now return to the FreePint Bar or FreePint Student Bar.
