Free Pint Electronic Copyright Exchange 17th October 2002
Please note: This session was repeated on Thursday, 13th February 2003. Please click here for more information.
This seminar looked at how copyright protects works in the electronic environment, whether they are "born digital" or have been converted into electronic format from hard copy.

It also considered the implications of copyright for websites and intranets, including the issues to take into account when deep linking.
The seminar leader was Paul Pedley, Head of Research, Economist Intelligence Unit.
The seminar was run as an interactive session in which delegates were encouraged to share their experiences of trying to ensure that their working practices are copyright compliant. To get the most out of the session, delegates were invited to bring along examples of any practical difficulties with copyright that they were either currently facing or have had to deal with recently.
Paul is writing a book on legal issues in information work for Facet Publishing. He represents Aslib on the Libraries and Archives Copyright Alliance <http://www.cilip.org.uk/laca>, and is a member of the steering group for the JISC Legal Information Service.
All attendees received a handout on electronic copyright matters including a checklist of issues to consider if you intend to "deep link" to sites; plus a listing of useful websites and contacts, including items covering the licensing of electronic resources.
