Free Pint Telecommunications Exchange
Telecommunications services are vital to almost all business activities, while telecommunications networks provide the underlying structures of the information economy. The telecommunications industry is highly innovative, supports a very diverse range of services and can be confusing for researchers who do not have a basic understanding of telecommunications technologies.
|
|
This Exchange was intended to equip participants with an awareness of the key sources of information on telecommunications, an ability to research the sector efficiently, and a basic understanding of telecommunications networks and services. The format was flexible and took account of attendees' professional background, information needs and business information experience.
|
This session covered:
 | Statistics sources - data sources on networks, traffic, revenues, prices, users and market forecasts |
 | Directories - key sources of information on the structure of this highly diverse industry and on the products and services available |
 | Journals - top journals and newsletters for news, comment, current awareness and technical topics |
 | Online Databases - key bibliographic and news databases |
 | Reference sources - top portals, encyclopaedias, dictionaries, acronym guides and other reference sources |
 | Government and International Agencies - national and international agencies that determine policy and develop laws, regulations and standards |
 | Trade Associations - national, regional and international trade associations which offer useful business information. |
|

|
The Exchange was lead by Tony Hay, a director of Dunkerton Ltd.
Tony is a freelance researcher who specialises in telecommunications information. He was head of BT's Business Planning and Strategy Department library and was more European Practice Information Manager for telecommunications and media at Booz.Allen & Hamilton.
