University of Bath - Management Projects
I am the Projects Officer in the School of Management at the University of Bath. All our final year Bachelor of Business Administration students have to complete a team project on behalf of organisations or companies as part of their degree. Previous clients (including Virgin Atlantic, Dyson, PWC, Raleigh International, Wessex Water, Yellow Pages) have benefited from, in-depth strategic research; market research; feasibility studies; and intra-organisational analysis. Many clients have used the student’s findings to make recommendations at board level. The projects are very much about real business issues.
The research projects begin in September 2001 and finish in April 2002. After the research has been completed, the teams produce a final report and give a business presentation to the client company. Interim reports and presentations may also be worked into the project.
Most of the projects are UK based although every year selected students spend a semester at a top business school in Europe, the United States or Canada. They undertake an International research project alongside their studies from September to December with time made available for them to travel to other European countries or other parts of North America.
Prior to undertaking the team project, all students have completed two six-month work placements in two different organisations. They will also have performed a substantial number of assessed team projects during their first three years at the University of Bath.
In addition to providing a very useful and cost effective resource to the sponsoring organisation, the team projects scheme is an excellent way of enhancing your company’s profile amongst prospective graduates. For the students, it is one of the most effective learning experiences in management studies.
The fee for projects for the 2001-2002 academic year is £1,100 (plus VAT) for UK-based projects and £1,650 (plus VAT) for international projects. There is a reduced fee for small firms and non-profit organisations. This fee is invoiced upon satisfactory completion of the project. In addition, companies are asked to cover expenses in connection with the project work. There is no remuneration to the students.
If anyone is interested in discussing the possibility of commissioning a project please contact me.
