Thanks to everyone who sent me help on this matter. Unfortunately, all the solutions worked only for one opening, then the problem re-occurred.
Meanwhile, my printer would not print in Draft Mode for any programme, Error message “Paper Jam” (even though it wasn’t). I assumed it was a hardware problem.
THEN
I have a Programme called Ontrack System Suite . .similar to Norton, McAffee etc. One day I decided to uninstall it (don’t ask !! long complicated problems, just don’t buy it is my advice, I’ve been awaiting replies to my e-mail pleas for help and follow up letters since February with no success.)
As soon as I’d done so, Word opens easily and effortlessly every time. Out of curiosity I tried to print in draft mode, and that’s fixed too!! What’s more, my whole computer has speeded up by a factor of about two.
Anyone tell me what that’s all about?
