In the past, there have been some Bar postings from people who had looked - in vain - for some software to help them organise the material on an existing home-grown intranet so that it could then be searched by users. These postings echoed my own failed attempts to find something that would provide a way to manage intranet content so that users can quickly find what they are looking for with a minimum of searching, guesswork or sitemaps. For various reasons like cost and/or performance, I was not happy with potential/partial solutions that did emerge - I had a very clear idea of exactly what I wanted in terms of functionality, interface, navigation etc but not where to buy it or how to make it!

Eventually, I turned to a company that works on KM and taxonomy solutions for [mostly] law firms to see if they could develop software to help turn the concept into a working reality. In case other free-pinters are facing similar problems, I thought it was worth saying that the project all worked out so well that the company involved,
Granite & Comfrey, have decided to market 'IntraFind '
[which is not at all legal specific], as a bolt-on application for existing intranets. Further details can be obtained from Derek.Sturdy@infoengineers.com.

I should make it clear that I have no financial interest in this venture [although my employers have retained certain IP rights that may be exercised in the future].

Gail
