Google is now beta testing an "image search" capability via the Google
Advanced Search Page

or by using the syntax
filetype:
NOTE: This "syntax" search method appears not to be functioning properly as of the writing of this message.
Images are returned to the user in a thumbnail format.
According to the FAQ the database contains over 150 million images and will also work with all other Google command syntax.
