Cheers to all the freepinters who shared their wisdom to answer the question in my earlier posting, the information in the replies was very useful - and will continue to be so. At the very least, this requires some feedback on the result's! Relating from my own experience, I found that my own ISP was the best "first port of call". In spite of my previous comment's about ntlworld "resulting from first impressions", I found; abuse@ntlworld.com very helpful - they gave me precise, unambiguous instructions on what information to send them from the suspect e-mail - and described the correct proceedure for doing so. Since their reply - I am very happy about two things; the first being that I didn't open the "snow white & t' 7 dwarfs" attach - it's a virus delivery system! The second being that since contacting the abuse team - I have not recieved any further suspect e-mails. For those who might be interested - it seems that almost any internet service, starting with ISP's and including message boards/newsgroups etc includes a reply address; abuse@....... Anyone suspecting that they have been sent a virus delivery system via e-mail, should in the first instance; complete the abuse@... address with their ISP (etc) domain-name, and send a message explaining what problem is suspected, and asking for instructions on how to proceed with reporting the abuse with the least risk of making things worse. If your ISP is not as good at this as ntlworld have proven to be - there's always the very helpful replies to my original plea for help on the freepint bar. |
