The Taxonomy article by Liz Edols is a fine introduction to a complex topic. I recommend it to anyone interested in the whole question of categorization, classification, organization and even information architecture.

However, one of the links is to a copy of the Practical Taxonomies article rather than the original, which is at http://www.destinationcrm.com/km/dcrm_km_article.asp?id=562

I also keep listings of taxonomy and classification software at http://www.searchtools.com/info/classifiers-tools.html, and am always looking for analytical and review articles.
