 Library Knowledge Technologies

I'm interested in technologies that support the management of knowledge for libraries. My greatest interest is in what I call managing "external knowledge," but internal knowledge management is also of interest.

"Internal" knowledge refers to the knowledge flow between libraries and between library staff for the management and maintenance of th library itself.

By external knowledge I'm talking about libraries assisting patrons in their own processes of learning, discovery, innovation, and creation (as well as the resarch that leads up to these, which libraries have historically done). You'll get extra brownie points from me if you can suggest technologies for libraries that assist in personalizing the patron's experience and extending the library's knowledge of the patron.

I'm in somewhat of a hurry for this information, and hope to have the bulk of the replies in by mid next week.

You could reply to my request in several ways, and I'm interested in all of these sorts of replies:

(1) Websites that list, classify, compare,
evaluate, and or recommend library
technologies
(2) Categorical lists of knowledge technologies
for libraries
(3) Vendors who market specifically to libraries
(4) Vendors who market mostly to business but
who also sell to libraries
(5) Personal vendor recommendations
(6) Anecdotes (positive and negative)
(7) Theoretical/philosophical considerations
(not TOO much of this, please!)

Thanks!

jb
