Is this a scam or what?

Hi,

My partner has just been phoned by someone claiming to be from a travel agent in Lancashire, UK. We have, she says, been chosen to take part in a promotion they are organising and we can have a two-week holiday for four (including all travel and accommodation) in Spain or Portugal any time over the next 18 months. Just pop into a local travel agent, pay £39.99 per person to register and pick a destination.

“OK,” said my partner, “so what’s the catch?”
“There is no catch” came the reply, “we find that 60% of people go on to make additional bookings – so it’s just a good promotion for us”

Hmmmm.

Now, call me cynical if you wish, but I just about believe in Free Pints but not Free Lunches and certainly not Free Continental Holidays.

Have any Free Pinters (a generally sceptical lot, I’ve observed) come across this one – and if so, how does it work? The company calls itself Mainstream Travel.

Cheers,

Bob Levien
