I am using a glycol detection kit to detect free glycerol in biodiesel, I need to know the chemistry of the reaction.
The steps and chemicals involved are as follows:
Step 1
Diesel + Reagent3 + Reagent1, heat under hot tap for 4-6 mins
Step 2
Add Reagent2 to the solution mix and warm under hot tap for 20 mins.
Reagent1
Potassium Periodate, Sodium Sulphate
Reagent2
Magnesium Sulphate, Sodium Sulphate, p-Rosaniline Hydrochloride
Reagent3
Sulphuric Acid, Demineralised Water
All the above are pre measured in the kit supplied by Hach Company.
When usin the kit to detect glycol only 0.5ml of the sample to be tested is used, this is for a range of 0-150 mg/l of glycol. We are expecting 1800 mg/l so is there anything that can be used to dilute the diesel sample?
