Sometimes I just need to take a brief look at a site and I want to see the rest straight away. So with Euratlas. It's a periodical historical atlas, with a map of the states and political divisions of Europe for the first year of every century from AD 1 to AD 1700.
You can select a map of the Northern, Southern, Eastern or Western sections of Europe, or select a big map of all the sections. There is a detailed legend but I'd advise you to open it in a new window to make it easier to refer to.
In addition to all the above you will find maps and details of Roman battles, maps of ancient Rome and Constantinople and various other historical regions, also links to other similar sites, maps, historical projects, etc. And the whole thing is available in French, as well as English!
A great deal of care and attention has gone into producing this resource and it's the sort of site that represents, for me, one of the high points of the World Wide Web.
