Hi all,

I'm looking for information on sources of venture capital. I know the question has been asked in the past but the last time was a while back and I can't find a comprehensive list. I am asking specifically regarding sources of funding for an irrigation device for which a patent application has been submitted. The device is very simple and one of the key markets would be in developing countries where efficient water use is a critical issue.
The sorts of sources that may be relevant for this sort of project include -
• universities and other academic/ research institutes, through prizes and grants;
• European Union;
• NGOs;
• Government agencies;
• Utilities;
• organisations with vested interest, e.g., drinks companies with extensive distribution networks and supermarkets with international supply chains;
• irrigation equipment providers, probably aimed at domestic consumers and small scale irrigation;
• agrochemical companies and others working in relevant areas; and the obvious
• business angels and venture capital providers.
I'd like to (a) validate whether this is a sensible starting list; and (b) see if I can find more information on possible more specific starting point; e.g., which universities are more likely to look at supporting this sort of project, or which national and international agencies are most likely to have appropriate sources of funding available.
Thanks,
Andrew
