Portrait/landscape problems in Word

I am late submitting my paper to the IEEE aerospace conf. due to MS Word problems. I have the paper in newspaper columns. There is a diagram in landscape. After which more text follows in portrait mode, then a table... more text in portrait... When i view the document there are no blank pages. However, when I print preview the document I notice a blank page after the diagram then then the text follows in potrait mode okay and then another blank page and then the text follows okay... Then another blank page then text follows ok... then the text keeps following with NO blank pages. I'm exhausted trying to figure out what is wrong. I did the view ... nothing. I can use help ASAP. If you can email me solutions, it would be much appreciated.
