I am writing a range of articles to link up with the Queen's Golden jubilee about what life was like in 1952 (and possibly on 1977 the silver jubilee). I have found a few sites with events during the year but has anyone got any bright ideas about how I might find out things like:

percentage of homes with bathrooms
percentage of homes with inside toilets
penetration of TV
average price of a house
average price of a car
price of a pint of beer, pint of milk, loaf of bread,
which companies were riding high in the stockmarket
what the major industries were and how many people were employed
number of working women
Population and gdp
new developments in medicine
new developments in technology

And any other bright ideas for things that people might find as useful comparators for how life has changed.

Answers don't necessarily have to be web-based as long as books etc are easy to get hold of - the accession was 6th Feb so I need to have something done by then.

Thanks in advance for all and any useful ideas and suggestions.
