Sometimes people are surprised when told that there are numerous literary and academic texts available, free of charge, online. Many well known works have available for some time, as long as they are out of copyright. In addition to this there are plenty of textbooks and reference materials around too. You'll find a great deal by searching for specific titles and authors. But it's better to go straight to the horse's mouth.

Today's resource, from the University of Pennsylvania, is just one of those horses. The Online Books Page is a database of about 15,000 texts and by browsing down the lists of authors and titles you are bound to find plenty of items of interest.

The main page gives you access to the search function, lists of authors, titles, subjects, etc. There are also links to sections on new listings, news, features (such as one celebrating women writers) and banned books available online. There are also links to other text archives, speciality archives, foreign language text archives and other interesting things.

I don't ever want to hear that there's nothing worthwhile reading on the Internet again!

Cheers
Simon
