Some search tools and portals have recently been cutting back their services, introducing charges for them or closing down altogether. On the other hand, some have continued to grow and develop.
Lycos has recently had a makeover and the news section is looking particularly good. I'm talking about the .com version so that means US news, primarily. But there is a new UK news channel due out this month. And no doubt the other regional versions of Lycos will be providing similar services.
The home page lists the main stories, picked by the editor, along with a list of breaking news stories which is updated throughout the day. And don't miss the link at the end of the home page that allows you to personalise your Lycos News page.
On the left hand column there's a list of topics from which you can select if you want to zero in on news of a specific category, business, stock prices, politics, health, international, etc. There's a small photo section which can be viewed by topic. And if you can't find what you want browsing, the whole Lycos News section can be searched by keyword too.
