A thought has occurred to me that some of you I may have slightly misleading interpretation as to the nature of my problem.

The sluggish behaviour of my system and printer only really occurs WHEN USING MICROSOFT WORD. All my other programmes work at a reasonable speed, even graphics programs. Unfortunately, Word is the programme I use most often. And Yes, I’ve tried uninstalling Microsoft Office and my printer, defragging and re-installing them both. Hang on a minte, I’ve just tried Wordpad, and although it’s a bit faster, it’s not much.

I still wonder about memory problems, as when I tried the trick of removing my 256Mg chip (leaving myself still with 128Mg), as soon as I re-booted, Rambooster chugged immediately into life and worked continuously in the background, until I decided that Word was no better and reinstalled the extra 256Mg.

Unless a breakthrough occurs soon, however, I guess I’m going to have to think about a re-format and re-installing Windows, as I spend hours every day staring at an egg-timer whilst my computer decides when it’s going to open another document, or print the present one.

And a final note. No Stuart, I never did find the System File Checker despite a long search through the System Tools Screen you suggested.

Tony
