Ever since I've been getting email in large amounts I've received daily viruses, virus hoaxes and genuine virus warnings and reports. I ignore reports and warnings unless they come from a recognised source and I never open an email attachment. But you have to keep an ear out for virus gossip and make sure your email and browser software are up to date with any new patches. And, if you use anti virus software, you need to keep your virus definitions up to date.

The Virus Notification Program answers eight basic questions people ask about viruses. Questions about how to recognise them, how to find out what sort you’re dealing with, how to protect your system from them, how to get reliable and up to date news about them, etc.

My favourite tip for guarding against catching a virus is the simplest one. Don't open things just because they arrive in your inbox. Just like things that come through your door, it's often better to dump them straight away. But this site will tell you how to check your system settings, update your software and get rid of a virus if you are unlucky enough, or careless enough, to catch one. And don't miss their selected links section if you want to know more about the subject:
