Indexing PDF files

Quick question...

Client uses Ringtail software to index files scanned in. Most files are PDFs in Czech language, scanned with OCR.

Problem: searches aren't bringing up expected results -- Ringtail apparently uses Microsoft Indexing Service for indexing and querying.

Any ideas as to why it's failing to find files? Is Indexing Service able to perform wildcard searches within files or only on the filenames? Any known issues with Indexing Service and Czech characters?
