I've heard more than once the supposed Chinese tradition or proverb that once a person saves another person's life, the rescuer is responsible for the rescuee's safety/life for the rest of his life. Is this apocryphal (as I am starting to think, having found only references to films via Google and nothing on various Chinese cultural sites), or has there really ever been a Chinese tradition/code that believes this?
I've heard this described as a Native American belief rather than Chinese. Might be worth a look at some ...
