Dear William

Yet another fascinating issue of Free Pint. I agree absolutely with your complaint that most conferences make it very hard to network effectively - unless you are completely brazen or have unlimited time on your hands!

This is why for Knowledge Management in London on 16th - 17th April we have introduced a number of initiatives in response to feedback from delegates last year who said that they would like us to help them to meet and compare notes with like-minded individuals more easily.

One of the main features is our new series of 'Interactive Insight' sessions, which (as their name suggests) provide conference delegates with the chance to share their own experience and issues within a structured environment. Once you have listened to a colleague explain their viewpoint, it is so much easier to continue a conversation later.

We also offer pre-conference workshops which not only provide a forum where newcomers to the field can swiftly get up to speed on KM, but which also provide an ideal 'ice-breaker' for more experienced practitioners to meet and talk before the main event.

Initiatives such as these - coupled with commonsensical things such having sufficient breaks and informal receptions where people can talk about what they have learned during the day - will hopefully become the norm for industry events in the not too distant future.

In the meantime, I would suggest that delegates always tell the organisers what they need by completing questionnaires or via the event web site.

Look forward to seeing you at Knowledge Management
Kind regards

Clive
