 Conference Centre of the UK

I'm helping to run a major event in 2009 and need to know if there''s any town which is regarded as the "Conference centre of the UK".

For example, Cannes has the music, film, local government and TV Festivals. Is there any where in the UK that has a string of major events/conferences/seminars?

Found several sites which offer venue finder facilities but would prefer to go for the major centre, if there is one. There must be one town that has all the facilities in one place!

Thanks.
