File Search & Retrieval from the Desktop

Hi all,

I'm currently undertaking an MSc Research Project with the Open University CCI (Computing for Commerce and Industry) programme.

The area I'm researching is software methods for searching for and retrieving files on PCs - in essence "how do you find files you've created on your PC?"

Surprisingly this isn't an area which seems to have been the subject of a great deal of academic research, and I'm now trying to identify a range of current tools which purport to deal with this problem.

I would be grateful for any feedback from anyone on specific software applications they use to locate files on their PCs.

I'm also developing an online survey in this area and I hope it will be OK to post the URL for the survey on here once it's ready.

TIA

Charles
