Nick Stevens gives us a powerful closing thought -- he said,
"" I think the key to professionalism lies with self regulated codes of conduct. Lawyers and Medical Practitioners have such systems - with teeth. I'm not sure how many other "professions" do. ""

Powerful, because Librarians as such are among the next to be licensed by the states / countries...licenses are an excellent way to raise money, as you buy your license. (Example: substitute teachers' licenses in California and Oregon are for ONE year, and range slightly under $100 USD.)

Closing, because I think we've fairly well defined the subject, tangental remarks aside...

In general summary, we are Librarians, Research technicians, and so forth -- according to the job descriptions we're hired to fill. No one reported "Resource Specialists" as termonology in use today -- AND we do not have an organization poised to explore the issue. Nor do I have the funds, which of course is another stumbling block.

I cherish your responses; thank you all very much for your thinking contributions, and thank you as well for the unthinking ones.

ED STOLLERY
