I think then what follows isn't what you need but just in case you haven't tried this....
You can still do tables with full acrobat - and primarily is what I use it for. However, it works well with figures not so well with text.
Acrobat gives you 3 text select options - text, column & table/formatted. Chose the last one. Highlight the table. It comes up with a green border. However, what it doesn't tell you is that for a table you have to do a further right click, and chose table. This changes it to table (and turns it blue. It now copies and pastes. You can set the default to table in preferences.
Some formatting (ie font) comes with it although I find the width of the table isn't quite right. Still have to do a bit of tarting but generally far quicker than re-typing.
The only thought was whether another pdf tool might do it - someone here suggested Gemini Solo. Have a look at www.planetpdf.com for non-adobe pdf tools.
