Hi
many of you will be now be aware of the fantastic free service that William provides via his DigBig url shortening service (and I mean short!).
We often create links to important pieces of content on our website that are far too long to be incorporated effectively into an email. DigBig would of course be the ideal solution. (Yes, the database could be redesigned to produce shorter links but as with everything this is easier said than done).
What I would like to know is whether anyone has any thoughts or done any testing on whether using a DigBig link has an impact on clickthroughs. Where's the impact? Well, what I mean by this is that our normal website address would not be apparent anywhere in the link. Would this lead to a drop in clickthrough's due to a drop in trust, i.e. the link appears to be an unknown quantity.
I will already be doing the following:
- providing my full name and work contact details including a phone number within the body of the email
- providing a short explanation at the bottom of the email explaining what a DigBig link is and why it's needed (including a link to the DigBig site)
Any ideas?
Thanks
Martin |
