I am currently doing a marketing research project as an independent consultant in which I am analyzing the European industrial automation market. This is the first time that I have done a project like this and am really enjoying the work, flexibility and challenge of CI. This is why I have started to think about becoming a CI professional.
I have found some of the more prominent sites that are dedicated to CI, but many crucial questions remain. Obviously there are people out there making a good living, but how much money can you make in this profession? I know that money isn’t everything, but I’m in grad school right now (MBA) and have one semester left. Once I’m done, I’ll need to pay my loans… sadly.
I would greatly appreciate hearing from some of you experienced researchers:
What does it take to be successful?
What should I expect as overhead costs for this kind of work?
How much time do you spend on business development?
What am I not asking that I should be asking?
