Hi everyone,

I work in a large Information Services Division of a University. The staffing structure is very hierarchical (i.e. line managers and bigger and bigger pay packets as you go up the hierarchy, and so it is very traditional and conventional in this sense. The thing is that the managerial style is one of 'we are all in this together!'

I'm thinking of writing an article about staffing structures within library and information services, (mainly those that fall within the not for profit sector), and need to find out a little bit about the staffing structures in other institutions/ establishments first.

My question is one of ' Is the traditional hierarchical structure in Information Services the best way of delivering Information Services?' Perhaps arguing a more co-operative approach might be a fairer and ultimately more effective means of delivering services. Thanks in advance of any replies.
