Building a library catalogue using Access

I've been given the task of building a library catalogue using Microsoft Access, and as I've never used it before would appreciate any tips, especially successful examples.
We currently have our catalogue on a DOS database which was built inhouse and is on it's last legs but I would like to improve the usability and format using Access.
I've read the previous threads on the topics so feel partly daunted and partly optimistic, but would really appreciate the opportunity of seeing some examples working in practice.
Thanks
Sarah
