The shareware market, and how to get into it

Hi folks,

A family friend and I want to try selling a few simple sofware products; things like utilities and useful little niche applications, all written in Java. Having never done this sort of thing before, we're quite uncertain about how to proceed with things like online payment options, whether to register as a company so as to have a separate bank account to take payments, licensing, trying to make piracy harder, and so on.

Thusly, can anyone recommend any resources, how to's, or any other things which cover the issues involved (or even one/some of them!)? I guess the flavour of stuff we're looking for could be described as a Dummy's Guide To Going Into Shareware, or something.

Thanks in advance!
Mark
