Generating revenue in an information service

This is an age old question - how does a library and information service within an organisation (professional body) go from a cost centre to a profit centre? Does anyone have any ideas or experience of implementing services that generate revenue? The only things at the moment which generate a return are photocopy and fax charges - but this is obviously minimal. Any ideas would be most welcome.
Lyndsey.
