Problems with researching information on the Web

Hi,

I'm doing some research on the issues people have *researching* information on the Web.

When I say "research", you can look at it in two ways.

1. We all use search engines -- and when those don't work we post here :-) -- but where do they fall short? What things do search engines do well and what don't they do well when you are researching a topic or search for some information on the web?

2. True research involves a number of steps such as searching primary and secondary sources, aggregating, comparing, consolidating information etc. How do you do this with web information? Are there some good tools you use or are we left up to our own devices?

And one more question if you don't mind?

For those of you with children, say between 10-16 in age, do they do research for school projects on the internet? If so, what challenges do they face in doing this?

Thanks

Saeed
