I'm currently writing a chapter for a book that relates to the development of the Internet, with specific reference to British libraries/librarians in the 1990s. While I've got a lot of information on the overall development of things such as search engines for this period I'd be really interested to have your thoughts and recollections of life between 5 and 10 years ago.
For example - what was the first use of the internet in your library? When did you start running training sessions for users? When did the internet first become truly integrated into the services that you provide? What were your thoughts and feelings about the internet back then - did you see it as a challenge, a threat, an exciting development or a flash in the pan?
I'm keen on anacdotal information of course, but also keen on factual information, such as the date that you first made internet access available, or when you made a website available for the first time. I don't want to be too prescriptive, since I'm keen on hearing about anything that relates to the internet in that period of time (though nothing from 2000 onwards at the moment please, that's the subject matter of another chapter!) in any British library, be it public, commercial or academic.
I should also point out that I may want to include what you say in the chapter as direct quotes, so don't say anything that you wouldn't want down on paper for posterity! Also, if you're happy for me to perhaps contact you for followup information that would be very helpful indeed.
Many thanks,
Phil. |
