Hi there,

Has anyone had experience of establishing a network of information champions whose role is to promote good information practice locally? We are an organisation of about 1200 staff and have offices in London and the Midlands. We currently have a handful of information officers, with professional information backgrounds, carrying out the champion role in one or two areas. Now we have to encourage volunteers from within current business units to act as information officers for their relevant department. Some may be enthusiastic volunteers whilst others may be more reluctant nominees.

What advice would anyone give about how best to encourage participation (besides more pay)? What level of training and support will be needed to get such a community up and running? What have people found to be the minimum skills set needed for such work? What other issues should we be aware of and the pitfalls to avoid?

Any experiences or thoughts about this situation much appreciated.

Thank you

Claire F.
