A number of contributors to the Bar's CILIP debate have specifically criticised their events being based in London. This is an issue we at AUKML (The Association of UK Media Librarians - a non-CILIP body representing Info Pros who work for media organisations) have some trouble with - how do we contact and cater for interested parties across the UK?
AUKML events in London are well-attended by information professionals from all sectors - in the regions events are hard to fill and it's impossible to organise a representative sample of events across the UK simultaneously (unlike CILIP we have no paid staff). Last year we tried a new approach: offering advice, funding and publicity for anyone who wanted to organise a local event of whatever size. Despite contacting every media organisation outside London, we received no interest.
We *really* want to find ways to offer training and networking opportunities to information professionals in the regions. Can anyone tell us what they'd like to see?
