 Editing tags on MP3 files

Hello FreePinters,

I've been asked to investigate adding metadata tags to the MP3s which our web team are starting to produce (spoken word). I've seen the list of ID3v2 frames at http://www.id3.org/frames.html, many of which we would like to use. However, the software which converts our raw sound files to MP3s only offers ID3 tags for basic (music-related) information such as artist, album, title etc.

Being very new to the area of ID3 tagging, I'm slightly confused about how to add to these basic tags. Would a tag editor such as MP3 tag clinic allow me to add extra tags to the existing MP3 file? Or is impossible to add extra tags once the file is created? Do we need to find different software for creating the MP3 in the first place which will give us more flexibility in the tags we use?

Any advice would be very gratefully received!

Thanks,
Jackie Drennan,
Information Manager, WWF-UK

If you don't find an existing tagger that handles the tags you need, take a look at mp3bookhelper. It's open-source ...

A second thought: what MP3 encoder are you using? Pete

Thanks for that Pete - it's actually a consultant who's produced the MP3s and apparently he used Audio Catalyst. ...
