 Public messages to find people

Does anyone know if there is any kind of website (or any medium) on which to place a message for tracing people generally?

All the finding people/contact sites I've checked so far are geared towards finding friends or relatives, but I am not seeking a lost friend or relative; I am doing some research and I want to try and contact several people who helped to compile a newspaper article 34 years ago. I have already wriitten to the newspaper, and they were unable to assist. (They said they didn't have the time or resources to trace people who had written articles)

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
