Using a wiki as a knowledge base?

Hi

Does anyone have any experience of using wikis as a tool for sharing information across a large team of people?

We currently use FURL to share our internet favourites and wondered if a similar piece of software or wiki that could be used for key documents as well as web pages?

We don't need to collaborate on documents or need any chat functionality, just a single secure web-based source where we can store categorised documents and web pages. Ideally we'd like an intuitive, searchable resource that can be updated by all users.

Does anyone have any recommendations or suggestions?

Many thanks

Emily
