I've just been asked to take ownership of the British Library's trade literature collection (http://digbig.com/4nqhj). As part of this I'm trying to get information on other UK institutions who are collecting in this area or have significant historical trade lit collections.
I'm aware of the Science Museum Library's collection and that at the National Art Library. I do know, however, that a number of museums and scientific/professional/technical bodies have collections of this nature based on their specific area of interest.
So this is really an appeal to anyone reading this who has hard-copy or electronically-stored trade lit for information on what you are doing. In particular:
What subject do you cover?
Are you still collecting or is your data purely historical?
If you are still collecting, do you have a policy on what to collect?
Is your collection searchable by the public, either by a catalogue on the web or by personal visit or by you answering telephone/email/post enquiries from the general public?
Is your collection accessible to the general public, either by personal visit or by searching remotely and then ordering copies of documents?
Would you be interested in being recorded in a (currently very hypothetical) public list of institutions with trade lit collections?
Thanks very much to anyone who can help.
