 Web images - Copyright Infringement

We used some general small business images for our website which we sourced from a variety of places that we thought were free.

Today we received a letter from a large firm of solicitors claiming that we have "used the identified images without proper licence and payment" and infringed their clients copyright.

With the letter came an invoice and a Annual Licence Agreement (backed dated to 1st January 2006) for one small image. Cost over £2,500.

A quick search of the web finds similar images costing anything from £99 - £400. This makes the £2,500 charge seems very excessive !

The solicitors letter requests payment in two weeks time.

Please let all free pint members be aware of this and source iamges carefully.

Has anyone had similar experience ? If so what was the outcome?

Yours

Alan
