For over 10 years, Free Pint Limited has published the work of experts in the field on best-practices in information work. Over the years, as everyone's understanding of what 'information work' is all about, FreePint's body of articles has expanded and broadened in scope.
Rather than provide standard conference coverage (summary of sessions,
commentary on social events, and the insights of only one or two
reporters), we decided this year to open it up to the community
itself. We solicited contributions from participants, collected and
edited them, and organised them into thematic sections in the attached
PDF report -- call it a blend of new-world User Generated Content and
old-world publishing!
Today's publishing programme focuses on four practice areas: Find, Use, Manage and Share Information (FUMSI).
In 2007, to commemorate its tenth publishing year FreePint awarded the first FUMSI Citation for Most Useful Article, at Online Information 2007. Readers nominated the articles they felt were most practical and useful to them, and a panel of judges selected 'Mentors and Mentees: Structuring a Professional Relationship' by Heather Carine of Australia to receive the award.
Any article published in the FUMSI database between December 2007 and September 2008 is eligible for nomination. The full list of eligible articles is listed below. Links to each article can also be found through the online nomination system, where nominators are asked to provide information about how they used the information in the article to improve their work.
Both the author and the article nominee will receive recognition, and the award recipient will be announced at FreePint stand number 122 at the Online Information exhibition on Tuesday, 2 December.
Also of note at Online 2008:
FUMSI Contributing Editors will be presenting two informal panel discussions on the emerging opportunities for professionals who can Find, Use, Manage and Share Information.
VIP Senior Editor Pamela Clark, formally Director, Corporate Research & Development, AIG, will be offering a brief presentation on upheaval at the strategic level in the world of information.
