FUMSI Award for Most Useful Article to be Announced at Online

To commemorate its tenth publishing year, and to recognise its authors' efforts in sharing their expertise, Free Pint Ltd. is announcing the award of its first ‘FUMSI Citation for Most Useful Article’ at the Online Information exhibition at Olympia (4-6 December 2007). Several articles were nominated by the extensive user network of over 70,000 readers and a winning article was selected from the various citations.

The FreePint newsletter has a ten-year tradition of publishing practical, user-focused articles to help information professionals to find, use, manage and share information. Eligible articles for this year’s award were those published since December 2006. They covered a wide range of topics, including collaborative search strategies, European research resources, risk management, reliability of Wikipedia, distance learning in information systems, mentoring in the information profession, coverage of the SLA conference and more.

Both the author and the article nominee will receive recognition, and the award recipient will be announced at Free Pint stand number 144 at the Online Information exhibition on Wednesday, 5 December, at 1:15 p.m.

"We asked our online community of over 70,000 worldwide information professionals to select one article from a list of forty FUMSI articles that have been published in the past twelve months", explained Free Pint General Manager, Robin Neidorf. "In line with FUMSI objectives for providing practical and useful information to our network, the article selected by a user must have had the most practical and useful impact on his or her work. We also asked our users to explain how they applied, adapted or shared the ideas in the article for their work."

Free Pint Ltd. will also be announcing new practical and improved online resources for FUMSI, to help those who need to find, use, manage or share information from around the world, at its stand during the exhibition. The new FUMSI offering includes a searchable database of user-submitted articles and tips in each of the four practice areas (Find, Use, Manage and Share Information); a monthly PDF magazine with the most recent articles, enhanced with commentary by practice-area contributing editors; FUMSI Folios collecting recent articles and resources in a specific practice area; reports and tool kits, including hands-on PDF workbooks and resources for improving information skills and completing information-related projects.

Robin Neidorf will be giving a series of briefings on the new FUMSI offering at Free Pint’s stand number 122 during this year’s Online Information exhibition (4-6 December 2007) at Olympia. One will begin immediately after the award announcement. Discounted offers on the latest series of FreePint FUMSI reports (available from http://web.freepint.com/go/shop/report/) are also available to those who pre-register to receive the first issue (January 2008) of the new FUMSI Magazine -- email support@freepint.com for further details.
