Those who have not yet created one are likely to be working on one. LII stands out from the crowd thanks to its professionalism, objectivity, reasonable selection policy, informative annotations, excellent organization, awesome interface and search features. Search Engine News Inktomi Introduces Index Connect, New Service for Large Content Publishers Time lag, the amount of time it takes for web content to be available via an Internet search tool, is a major issue. Today, Inktomi announced a new solution for publishers of large amounts of content. From the release: "As millions of Web pages are added to the Internet daily, content publishers face new challenges in ensuring their most current content can be found. Similarly, search engines must incorporate new methods to crawl and index the Internet while sifting through an increasingly cluttered Web in order to provide users with accurate results...Through Inktomi Index Connect, large content publishers have more control over how and when their Web pages are indexed. For example, an online news publisher can control how frequently its site is crawled to make breaking news stories available in real-time, or an online commerce site can publish updated inventory information and inform search engine users of timely special offers at its store." Worthwhile Read--Life Online "Playing the Links: Interactivity and Stickiness in .Com and "Not.Com" Web Sites" From the March issue of First Monday. Abstract: "Creators of commercial (.com) and non-commercial (not.com) Web sites presumably have different goals, which may be revealed in the number and nature of links from the sites. This study examines links from the home pages of heavily used Web sites, finding that commercial sites have more links. Not.com sites vary considerably in linking behavior, with .gov and .org sites having the most links. Commercial sites have a lower percentage of links to outside sites, possibly an indication of design for stickiness to keep visitors on site while .net sites show the highest rate of external linking." |
